NHS Executive Information Management Group

Avon Trailblazer project

Wilkins Consultancy managed the Avon Trailblazer project for pathology EDI messages, to bring the piloting phase to a successful completion, establish a consolidated plan and introduce new management arrangements for the roll-out and widespread implementation.

HA/GP Links project

We undertook a study to review the benefits actually achieved by Health Authorities and General Practices from implementing Registration and Items of Service links. This compared the benefits achieved against those outlined in the original business case and the pilot outcomes reports. A Health Authority and General Practice in every Region of England and Wales were visited, selected to cover a wide range of experiences, and the systems suppliers were also consulted.

Primary Healthcare Teams Information Requirements

We managed a project studying the information requirements, and other potential international standard EDIFACT messages, to exchange information and other information issues for community units and GPs working in Primary Healthcare Teams.

CISP Programme III

As part of the CISP III programme, Wilkins Consultancy studied a variety of primary healthcare teams to model how they provided care, their functional requirements and needs for sharing information. We also examined available systems to identify unmet needs and developed technical architectures that could meet the requirements. The findings and conclusions were tested at a series of workshops.

We undertook a study covering two major areas of information for primary healthcare teams. This study identified information flows suited to EDI, evaluated possible EDIFACT messages, and identified the impact on health authorities, community units, and GPs. We managed a workshop for suppliers to raise awareness of the needs of primary healthcare teams.

Communications Management Group

Wilkins Consultancy produced the Applications Requirements Specification for users of NHSnet, a compendium of all the major applications that may use the NHS network. For each application it identified the users, business requirement, main information flows, characteristics, size and volumes with predicted growth, communications protocols, service levels and implementation aspects.
